繪 is composed of 糸 (silk) and 會 (gather). 會 depicts a box holding something, you need to open the box before you put something inside, so it has the meaning of cutting open.Before the invention of paper and pen, ancient Chinese used a knife to carve words and pictures on the bones or tortoise shells, and the patterns on the silk cloth are beautiful as picture, so 糸 is added.
