The story of 節

節 is composed of the BuShou of 竹 and 即, 即 depicts a man kneeling next to a utensil, his body joints are bent and prominent, while the stems of bamboo have node, so 節 means body joint. The nodes divide the stems of bamboo in several segments, so 節 also has the meaning of termination or restriction. On the other hand, in a year, there are several special days or periods, which divide a year into several segments, so 節 also means festival.
