筭 is composed of the BuShou of 竹(bamboo) and the variant of 弄(to manage). In 弄, 王 is replaced by 目, which can be regarded as an abacus, so it depicts two hands controlling an abacus for calculation, whole an ancient abacus are usually made of bamboo.
