ink

墨 is composed of 黑(black) and 土(earth, clay). 黑 depicts a man with tattoos on his face as punishment, such punishment consists of carving and inking characters on the victim’s head by indigo pigment which looks like black in color, such pigment comes from the mine underneath the earth.
