The story of 裔
descendants
裔 is composed of the variant of 衣 (clothes, garment) , 大 (big) and 口 (mouth). 衣 is the picture of the upper garment, with two straight lines representing the lower part. 大 depicts a man stretching his arms and legs, both his arms touch the edges of the lower garment, while 口 means the rim of the lower garment. The original meaning of 裔 is the edge of the lower garment, and extends to the meaning of frontier and descendent.
