饈 is composed of 食 (eat) and 羞 (ashamed, shy). 羞 is the picture of presenting a sacrificial lamb by hand, while lamb was regarded as a delicacy by the ancient Chinese. 羞 has already meant delicacy and offering, but since it derived the meaning of shame, 食 was added to emphasize the original meaning.
