The story of 餿

餿 is composed of the BuShou of 食(to eat) and 叟. 叟 is the picture of a hand holding a torch inside a house, means searching for something. When someone gets old, he needs stronger illumination, so 叟 also means old man. The food will turn rancid if it is too old.
