導 is composed of 寸(depicts an arm with a stroke pointing at wrist, means inch) and道(Road).道 means road, while寸 also means the location on wrist over the radical artery where pulse is taken in traditional Chinese medicine, according to Traditional Chinese medicine, pulse is one of the main indicator of health, therefore, both道 and寸 have the meaning of guiding or conducting.
