The story of 短

short

短 is composed of 矢(an arrow) and 豆(means beans, it is the picture of a container for beans). An arrow is short when it is compared with the other weapons like sword and spear(or: arrow goes straight, straight line is the shortest distance between two point), bean is small, so 短 is used to describe something short or tiny.
