The story of 廷

廷 is composed of 𠃊 (corner, hidden) and 𡈼 (good). 𠃊 depicts an open space with only walls but no cover, 𡈼 is a picture of a man standing on a mound, also has the meaning of open space. Now we use 庭 to mean open space, 廷 specifically refers to the place where the king issued decrees in ancient times. Government orders are the most important for the whole country, they must be announced to the public in a wide place.
