韋 depicts two feet walking around an enclosure.韋 meant enclosure before, but such meaning was then replaced by 圍. On the other hand, 韋 can be used to describe something which is violated or not wanted, but such meaning has also been replaced by 違, now we mostly use 韋 as surname.
