朦 is composed of 月 (the moon) and 蒙 (cover, dazed).蒙 depicts a man whose head is covered by leaves and branches, meaning cover or dazed. The moon is much gloomy than the sun, whilst the appearance of the moon changes every night, it is unclear and indistinct.
